Kigali, Rwanda - The ARCOS/Eco-Schools Programme in Rwanda has announced a major milestone in its environmental education and climate resilience efforts: the successful production of over 85,000 trees through its newly launched Eco-Schools Demonstration Tree Nurseries.
Launched under the inspiring theme “My Tree, My Legacy,” the initiative introduces a dynamic Living Green Learning Zone-a space where students, teachers, and community members gather to learn, grow, and take collective action for the environment. These nurseries not only supply tree seedlings but also serve as hubs for peer learning, hands-on environmental education, and community engagement.
Growing Climate Resilience Across Communities
The 85,000+ trees grown through this effort will be planted in partner schools and surrounding communities, marking a significant contribution to Rwanda’s reforestation goals and broader climate resilience strategies. The large-scale planting initiative will help restore degraded landscapes, increase biodiversity, and engage youth in meaningful climate action.
Strengthening Environmental Responsibility Through Learning
The Demonstration Tree Nurseries offer students a unique opportunity to connect learning with real-world impact. By nurturing trees from seedlings to planting, learners gain practical skills in ecosystem restoration, deepen their understanding of climate challenges, and develop a lasting sense of environmental responsibility.
This achievement underscores the transformative power of the Eco-Schools model in Rwanda-linking education, community partnership, and environmental stewardship to create a greener, more sustainable future.
