Eco-Schools Alumni
Inspiring change beyond the school!
2024, Eco-Schools Conference Czech Republic
For 30 years, since 1994, thousands of young people have been part of an Eco-Committee, working to make their schools and communities more sustainable. But the story does not end at graduation. Our Eco-Schools alumni are proof that the skills, passion, and commitment developed through the programme can spark a lifelong journey of positive impact.
From environmental scientists and community leaders to entrepreneurs and educators, our alumni are using the values they nurtured in Eco-Schools to shape a better future. We are proud to celebrate their achievements and share their stories, not only to honour their journeys but also to inspire the next generation of changemakers currently wearing the green badge.
This page will grow into a global collection of alumni voices, showing the many ways sustainability can be championed in life and work.
If you were once part of an Eco-Committee, we would love to hear from you. Share your reflections on what Eco-Schools meant to you and how it has influenced your path since. Your story could inspire students across the world.

Sarah Roberts: environmental journalist & Podcaster
I’m Sarah Roberts, an environmental journalist, author, and podcaster. I recently competed on Netflix’s 'All The Sharks', a series that took me across six continents in search of the world’s rarest and lesser-known shark species, reaching #1 in Netflix Kids in over 50 countries. I’m passionate about inspiring young people to care for our planet, and for the last 15 years I’ve worked in some of the most remote environments with some of the biggest predators - from tropical islands with sharks to the depths of the Great Bear Rainforest with grizzly bears! Along the way, I’ve collected countless stories, including a shark bite and getting lost at sea, which I love to share in my school visits.
As a journalist, I’ve made documentaries exploring climate change, conservation science, and human-wildlife conflict. I’ve also written a series of bestselling children’s books, including Somebody Swallowed Stanley, which was featured on CBeebies Bedtime Stories.
My love of nature started early in my Eco-School Primary, where I co-founded a wildlife club with friends and became a junior reporter for our local newspaper. Those early experiences shaped the career I have today and continue to inspire me to connect with pupils, to prove to them that any dream is possible and you're never too small to make a difference for our planet.
